The entire region of Tuscany is a furry friend’s paradise!

Bars, restaurants, hotels, shops, post offices, public offices—you name it. Even supermarkets welcome our four-legged buddies, as long as they’re on a leash and not causing a ruckus. The regional law 59 of October 20, 2009, makes it crystal clear: “Dogs, accompanied by their owners or guardians, can stroll into all public and commercial places, including spots open to the public throughout the region”.

There’s just one tiny detail: if a place owner decides to say ‘no’ to our furry pals, they need to let the mayor know. But unless there’s a registered letter to City Hall saying to keep the door shut for dogs, consider it an open invitation!

As for the beaches, each municipality has its own rules during the summer season.

Usually, they say ‘no’ to dogs from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. But fear not! San Vincenzo on the west and Piombino on the east have set aside special sections of the beach just for our four-legged friends, where they can even splash around without a leash.

There are also beach establishments dedicated to our furry buddies. For specific behavior rules, it’s best to reach out directly to the managers.

Here’s a list of beaches and other interesting spots for our four-legged companions:

Bau Beach (ex Dog Beach) – San Vincenzo

Distance from Dolce Vita: 7 km – 5 minutes

The Bau Beach is the designated spot for our furry companions.
Situated on the road from San Vincenzo towards Piombino, the so-called ‘Princess Road,’ approximately 800 m from the San Vincenzo sign. Parking is available along the road. Half of the beach is free, while the other half is equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers.
Booking is advisable during August and on weekends.

Free Beach – Gulf of Baratti

Distance from Dolce Vita: 12 km – 13 minutes

In 2015, the stretch of beach reserved for dogs in the Gulf of Baratti was modified. The area dedicated to our best furry friends is from the end of the archaeological excavations of the Fonte di San Cerbone to the Casone.

It is prohibited to bring pets to other sections of the beach, from the Casone to 230 meters north of the La Perla restaurant, and from the end of the archaeological excavations of the Church of San Cerbone to the Alaggio slipway.

The beach is shallow and is located along the access road to Baratti. An advantage could be the green area behind the beach, adjacent to the road.

Free Beach and Pascià Glam Beach – Perelli 1

Distance from Dolce Vita: 17 km – 17 minutes

The Perelli beach is part of the Coastal Natural Park of Sterpaia. It stretches for over 10 km of white and fine sand, very wide, with a clear and shallow sea in front. Behind it, there is the Mediterranean scrub where you can find shade and rest during the hottest hours.

Near the Perelli 1 entrance, you’ll find the Pascià Glam Beach, with an area dedicated to those accompanied by their four-legged friends.

After the bathing establishment, there is also a beautiful stretch of free beach for about 1 km without any fencing. The beach is well-maintained and equipped with garbage bins. It is recommended to bring umbrellas, plenty of water, and bags for waste collection. However, for any needs, there is a nearby beach resort that sells drinks, ice cream, and more..

Bagno Orizzonte Beach – Perelli 3

Distance from Dolce Vita: 15 km – 17 minutes

The Perelli beach is part of the Coastal Natural Park of Sterpaia. It stretches for over 10 km of white and fine sand, very wide, with a clear and shallow sea in front. Behind it, there is the Mediterranean scrub where you can find shade and rest during the hottest hours.
